Bengt & Lotta - Swedish design
Bengt Lindberg and Lotta Glave met at the University of Arts, Crafts and Design during their studies in graphic design and illustration. After graduating, Lotta got a job at Dagens Nyheter, one of Sweden's largest newspapers, and Bengt at an advertising agency, which turned out to be a rather boring job. Neither of them could resist the flow of creative ideas.
Bengt & Lotta cast iron candlesticks
For Bengt, it all started with a cow, which became a cast iron candlestick. The cow was soon joined by a sheep, a horse, and a moose, all originating from Småland, Bengt's home province. Over the years, the collection has developed into a beautiful and diverse collection in which animals and love play a major role.
The couple's background has undoubtedly contributed to their endless creativity. Bengt was born in Värnamo, Sweden, but his grandparents had a farm in Skåne, filled with art objects, handicrafts, and trinkets. Bengt > "I have always loved old things, especially that somewhat naive, clumsy folk art. If things are too perfect, they also become boring."
Lotta Glave, originally from Malmö, believes that much of her inspiration comes from her Austrian grandmother, who was an illustrator and bookbinder. Their house was always filled with fun, homemade creations, such as fantastic lacquered paper dollhouses! "I love things that are fun, different, and cheerful," says Lotta, who joined the family business when Bengt asked her to draw an angel. Just like Bengt's animals, Lotta's angel has evolved from candlesticks and Christmas tree ornaments to necklaces and fabrics. Today, Lotta designs most of the patterns; designs that are appreciated all over the world, not least in Japan and the United Kingdom.
The couple's creations can currently be seen at the Nordiska Muséet in Stockholm, Kulturen in Lund, and the Växjö Glass Museum. And if you visit their little shop in Stockholm, you will find them surrounded by hundreds of other items: trays, lamps, furniture, porcelain, napkins, and thousands of ideas that have not yet been realized.
