The Unikko (poppy) design was born in 1964 after Armi Ratia, the founder of Marimekko, announced that Marimekko would never print a floral pattern. Maija Isola refused to follow Armi's orders and - in protest - created a whole series of beautiful floral prints. One of them was Unikko, which has become a story of creativity, strength, courage and confidence in itself.
