Architectmade Mermaid oak - maple H16.7cm - Architect Hans Bølling

The beautiful, elegant Mermaid was designed by Hans Bølling for Architectmade. The mermaid combines refined and simple Danish design. You can create new expressions by simply rotating her head, fins, body, or arms. The head can also be removed to place the arms over the head. The lower part of her body is made of oak, while the upper parts are made of maple.

Fairytales that become reality

At first glance, the Mermaid is reminiscent of the famous fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen, which is associated with Denmark for most people. Hans Bølling's character, designed in 1960, transcends the fairytale and embodies an ethereal, refined feminine aura. Her carefully rounded form and thoughtful lines convey a sense of serenity.

PLAYFUL HUMOR

Bølling's work is known for its playfulness, humor, and wit. As a passionate spirit whose work and products are inspired by creative diversity, Bølling's interest in architecture led him back to school for further education after completing his training as an advertising designer. His practice expanded from objects to villas, residential complexes, and town halls.

At the beginning of his career, he started making small plant figurines as gifts for family and friends. The precision and personality of his objects paved the way to success, and he soon began selling the wooden figurines to shops.

Bølling won an award for his designs and invested the prize money in his own woodworking machine. Access to the means of production in the 1950s gave impetus to the production of Bølling's now-famous Duck and Ducklings.

Years later, Hans still stops by the Architectmade office to view his beloved products. His lively, cheerful spirit inspires us to more ideas than we can handle!
